Cypress "Knees"
A cypress knee is a distinctive structure forming above the roots of a cypress tree. Their function is unknown, but they are generally seen on trees growing in swamps. Some current hypotheses present that they might help to aerate to the tree's roots, create a barrier to catch sediment and reduce erosion, assist in anchoring the tree in the soft and muddy soil, or any combination thereof. In search of "old" Ventnor.
Taken from the Boardwalk near the Fishing Pier. |
All 4 appear to be originals. Ventnor looking across Atlantic Avenue |
Wissahickon and Ventnor Aves. Known as "Mrs. Mayberry's". |
Across the street from Mrs. Mayberries - this apartment style is still all over V, AC, and M. |
This has been here FOREVER. Used to be known as "Louie's", but the sign always said "White Star Liquors".
|
Great house. |
Public Utility decoration. |
